We are planning to offer Marine Biology Courses (introduction and advanced) every year. We also organise other courses. You can find them here.
We only offer the scuba diving course as part of this Marine Biology Course and we don’t offer it alone but we are more than happy to provide you the contact details of the diving school we are working with, that offers a wide variety of PADI certified courses.
The Open-water SCUBA dive using underwater communication equipment will consist of a dive during which the students will visit and explore several habitats (namely Posidonia meadows, sand, artificial reef, shaded habitat, rocky outcrops and pelagic habitats) during which different flora and fauna species will be identified and observed. The use of underwater wireless communication (hearing pieces for the students), underwater ID slates, internet and stock photos and textbooks will allow the students to understand and enjoy better the life that a diver very frequently encounters underwater. The behaviour of marine organisms such as reproductive/mimicry/feeding behaviours will also be observed and explained during and after the dive. This dive is addressed to divers with previous experience.
The Discover SCUBA diving will consist of two dives – one in the pool and one in open water during which the students will visit and explore several habitats (namely Posidonia meadows, sand, artificial reef, shaded habitat, rocky outcrops and pelagic habitats) during which different flora and fauna species will be identified and observed. This dive is addressed to first time divers.
The snorkeling session will consist of snorkeling with an instructor in open water during which the students will visit and explore several habitats (namely Posidonia meadows, sand, artificial reef, shaded habitat, rocky outcrops and pelagic habitats) during which different flora and fauna species will be identified and observed. This dive is addressed to those who would prefer snorkeling instead of diving.
In the case that the participant chooses to take SCUBA diving for the field activity, upon registration he will be requested to fill in a Medical Screening Statement questionnaire.
This course is an introduction to Marine Biology. Prior knowledge of marine biology or scuba diving is not necessary, since introductory PADI-certified scuba diving courses will be offered to participants. Participants will receive course notes and a certificate of attendance. Participants in the Discover Scuba Diving course will receive a PADI certificate which is accredited towards further PADI courses and continued scuba education.
The lectures will take place at the AquaBioTech Group premises in Mosta and will be delivered by marine biologist Prof. Alan Deidun one of the most qualified Marine Biologist University Professors in Malta (Lecturer's Biography). The SCUBA sessions will be led by Watercolours Dive Centre in Sliema by a group of experienced and qualified English speaking instructors under the PADI guidelines.
All necessary equipment for the diving will be provided by and at the diving school.
The discount will be 15 euros for the use of your own equipment of the total price and it will be refunded at your visit at AquaBioTech Group premises. That effectively drops the price to 105€ for the course.
